One of the most important products to keep your hair healthy, shiny and long is heat protectant!
Hot tools can be one of the quickest ways to damage your hair. Improper use of hot tools can also lead to hair colour fading or unwanted tones.
It is especially important to use heat protectant for those with lightened hair. Hair is lightened during balayage, highlights and other hair colour services. After lightening your hair becomes more fragile and heat protectant will help keep those blonde locks thick, by preventing breakage from heat.
Just made the investment in yourself and bought a new set of hair extensions? Heat protectant is a must! Hot tools can cause damage to the ends of your extensions causing them to need replacement faster.
4 Benefits of Heat Protectant Products for Your Hair
1. Helps maintain hair length + thickness. Heat protectant forms a thin film that protects the outer surface layer of the hair (the cuticle) and prevents any cracks in the surface layer from heat.
Heat causes the outer layer of the hair to crack and fray and the cuticle losses its protective ability causing damage to the inner layers of your hair strands. Heat protectant forms a thin film on the hair surface, that protects our hairs natural protective barrier from experiencing damage from heat.
2. Prevents damage from hot tools. Heat protectant forms a thin film on the hair surface, providing thermal protectant that slows down heat conduction and distributes heat more evenly. The heat protectant causes the hair to heat up gradually rather than suddenly. The sudden blast of heat when using hot tools without protectant may cause the hair to fray, or cuticle to burst leading to breakage.
3. Protects hair colour from unwanted changes. Hair colour pigments (toners or colours) may change when you use heat styling tools without heat protectant. For example, blonde hair may turn warmer (yellow/orange) when using hot tools without proper heat protectant.
4. Seals in moisture, preventing breakage + split ends. Your hair strand retains moisture that it needs. When heat is applied to the hair strand moisture evaporates from the interior layers of the hair shaft. The evaporation of this moisture causes steam to be pulled through the hair structure which breaks down the keratin proteins that give your hair its strength and elasticity. Overtime this process can cause split ends and breakage.
